Development of an industrial robotic system adapted to place products on a moving conveyor line

Project no.: 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856-01-0061

Project description:

During the project, partners UAB Vekompani and Kaunas University of Technology conducted scientific research and solved the scientific problems in order to create an industrial robot system that is adapted to place products on a moving conveyor line. The created system can handle small-sized products, such as, furniture parts. Proposed robotic cell is flexible and can be integrated into the already existing conveyor system. The robotic cell (system) will help manufacturing companies automate manual assembly work, increase production productivity, and reduce labor costs. Robotic cell consist of three main parts: two robot arm manipulators which is used to manipulate small furniture parts, sensory system that include 2D and 3D vision, distance sensors, end switches and industrial controllers, at lastly dedicated control algorithm that is based on innovative computer vision technologies.

Project funding:

This research project is funded by European Regional Development Fund according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments under measure No. Nr. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856 “Experiment”

Project results:

Working prototype of robotic cell that can be use to automate manual working place. Dedicated computer vision algorithms, which are used to detect and classify manipulated object.
