Development of industrial robot systems for small-scale furniture production

Project no.: J05-LVPA-K-03-0133

Project description:

JSC “Industrial Robotics Company”, together with partner KTU, is aiming to execute a scientific research, which will help to develop four new innovative robotic systems (grinding, finishing, milling and drilling and packaging manufacturing of furniture and components) for small-scale furniture production, combining robots, mechanization and automation units, tools for specific tasks and control solutions. The robot solutions created during the project will reduce the time of new products entering the production line, save on manufacturing costs, create a safer work environment for furniture industry employees, create highly qualified and well-paid jobs, optimize production processes and ensure the quality of production.
During the project robotic system for grinding furniture and their components were created and developed. The robotics system will combine a robotic arm, specially designed and adapted grinding tool/tools, mechanic solutions around the robotic arm. The goal of the system is to efficiently and technologically correctly perform the work of grinding complex planar and 3D objects in autonomous mode. The goal of the system is to work 4 times more efficiently than a person performing grinding work.
Additionally finishing robotic systems were developed and tested. The robotics system will combine a robotic arm, specially designed and adapted painting tool/tools, mechanic solutions around the robotic arm. The goal of the system is to efficiently and technologically correctly perform the finishing work (painting, priming, varnishing) of planar and 3D objects in autonomous mode. The goal of the system is to work 3 times more efficiently than a human doing the painting job.
During the project automatic milling system were created and developed. The robotics system will combine a robotic arm, specially designed and adapted milling, drilling tool/tools, mechanic solutions around the robotic arm. The purpose of the system is to efficiently and technologically correctly perform drilling and milling of planar and 3D objects in autonomous mode. The goal of the system is to work 4 times more efficiently than a person doing the same job.
