Development of the healthy aging solution

Project no.: 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856-01-0208

Project description:

As the elderly population grows, the need for elderly care and health care costs increases. The project “Development of the healthy aging solution” is aimed at finding a convenient technical solution for monitoring the health status of the elderly, responding to the growing demand for care services for the elderly, by creating a prototype of an intelligent monitoring system. The system being developed aims to prolong the independent safe life of the elderly in their own homes, automating and facilitating the care and nursing of the elderly for the institutions providing such services.
The intelligent monitoring system being developed, mounted on a self-driving robot, will be used to regularly assess the vital functions of elderly people in their own homes or nursing homes, thus automating, and facilitating the care and nursing of the elderly for the institutions providing these services. The system with built-in sensors will autonomously and regularly assess the elderly’s vital functions (breathing, heart rate, position of the human body, temperature, and changes in these parameters) and will report them to the nursing facility through the dedicated application. In case of deviations from the norm or identification of a possible danger, the nurse will be informed in real time, who, by connecting to the device via the application, will be able to professionally assess the situation and decide on the need to go for an inspection or call for emergency help. The technological solutions being developed include research in the fields of remote temperature measurement, analysis of human physiological state in video images and audio signals, recording of breathing and heart rate with the help of electromagnetic wave radars.

Project funding:

This research project is funded by European Regional Development Fund according to the 2014–2020 Operational Programme for the European Union Funds’ Investments under measure No. Nr. 01.2.1-LVPA-K-856 “Experiment”

Project results:

A prototype of a smart mobile monitoring system for the care of the elderly has been created, implementing remote temperature measurement, analysis of human physiological condition in video images and audio signals, recording of breathing and heart rate with the help of electromagnetic wave radars.
